I am a toddler mom and work in the field of special education. The honey bear straw cup is often used by SLPs/feeding therapists to teach straw-drinking.Because I have seen many students have success with this cup, I was confident it would help my (then) 7 month old learn to drink from a straw. Although he had no success with other straw cups, he began drinking from this cup independently within a few days of intermittent use/practice. After approximately a week of practicing with this cup, I transitioned him to a regular straw cup and he was immediately successful with that as well. We fully transitioned over to other straw cups with no issue.Whatâs so special about this cup?The magic of this cup is basically that itâs squeezable. You are able to squeeze the honey bear portion to force the liquid through the straw and into the childâs mouth. This sounds unimpressive but itâs exactly what little ones need to understand the purpose of a straw.The cup will come with an instruction packet to give you some helpful hints/guidance.One tip based on my experience: Begin squeezing the liquid entirely for your child. Once your child seems to be getting the hang of it, gradually reduce how much assistance you provide.
